Our 1st Anniversary

Melay and I had our first anniversary, as married couples, yesterday. Instead of giving her the usual flowers and gifts, I gave her something that is the best that I have given her so far. See the picture below.

I wrote (typed actually) 365 reasons why I love her and attached each reason to a chocolate. It's supposed to be Hershey's Kisses but due to global financial crisis, I opted using Samba chocolates. I set the chocolates near our bed while she was asleep. She was shocked, surprised and touched to see it. She put the papers in a photo album and when we counted them, to our suprise it was 375 in all with some duplicates. Hahaha! Still, she liked it... ^_^

Working from Kidapawan

I arrived here in Kidapawan last Saturday, Dec. 13. I went straight to the airport after our team's party, which ended at 1am. I am to work here from Dec. 15-19. Everything started out fine on my first working day here. I thought things are looking great. However, yesterday was a disaster. The laptop won't turn on anymore no matter how many times I try rebooting it. So then I resorted to using my Acer laptop. Before I was able to use it though, I needed to reformat and reinstall windows xp. I then installed work-related applications.

Alas, I thought I was already on my way to work using this one but guess what, contivity won't connect. This morning I tried connecting again and it worked, thank God! I was even able to connect to our Microsoft Exchange Server. Sending and receiving emails were now possible, which I thought yesterday was just a plus as long as I can do SAP and connect to Quality Center.

For my next goal? Remote access to HP network to do omega. I already have the necessary things I need except that I can't connect. Wish me luck

A week that I wish never ended

There are so many things I wanna blog about this past week of my life, which is actually worth more than just a week, it felt like decades.

I had my flight to Davao last Nov. 7 after work. I then took the first van trip to Kidapawan at 6am the following morning. The driver was both good and terrible, well more on the terrible side. He drove so fast that we almost got hit twice. I planned on sleeping for the whole duration of the trip but only took a nap for 10 minutes out of the 2-hour drive, which actually took a little more than 2 hours because we constantly pick up passengers along the way because the van was not full when we left the terminal.

I was home at 8:10am. I was delighted to see my son, who grew a lot since I last saw him 3 months ago. He was so shy at first when I first carry him, but we later on played together. I was surprised at the size of my wife's womb, it was really big compared to when he had our son. Anyway, from here on I'll divide this post into sections in order to organize my thoughts because there's just too much running on my mind right now.

Jamiel Myles
My one year and seven-month old son doesn't act nor look like an infant. He's in his toddler years already and he's very heavy. Hehehe. He learned a couple of dance moves from TV shows and commercials like the "giling2x" of wowowee and "piso all the way" of rexona. He also has his own version of Low by Flo Rida =). One afternoon, I danced while carrying him in my arms and when I was about to put him down to have a rest he wouldn't let his feet touch the ground haha! He still wants me to carry him and dance, it really gave me a workout =). Just like his daddy, he has long and curly eyelashes (thanks Dad for the genes!).

He also has made a liking to cars, balls and balloons. He likes the Car movie the most. Every morning when he wakes up, he'll say "bumbum" while pointing to the TV and dvd/music component, which means he wants to watch the Cars movie (I bought a VCD for him back in my July trip). And it doesn't end there, he'll bug us again with "bumbum" in the afternoon and even in the evening. Hehehe. We would just tell him that his cousin borrowed the vcd, though we know he wouldn't believe us.

He's become more agile and athletic. He can climb every furniture in the house. He can run around the house, move  heavy furnitures, push around a full gallon of mineral water and all other sort of things. He's becoming a lot like me when I was a child. Hehehe. I miss him already the moment I went out the door on my way back here in Manila.

Joannie Melle
Our new born baby daughter came into this world last Nov. 9. She and my wife had a difficult first day in the hospital. She was dextrosed for 12 hours because she had stool while inside the womb and she may have eaten some of it. She was crying all night due to hunger (my wife is unable to breastfeed her at that time yet) and to the dextrose. Her arm had swollen the following morning and her pedia had to resort to oral in-take of the anti-biotic because they can't find a nerve to inject the dextrose. She even had contusion on her feet and hands for trying the dextrose. I stayed awake the whole night to comfort her and to make her stop from crying for just a few minutes.

When her hunger was satisfied and her dextrosed was removed, she had a long, nice sleep. She weighed heavier than Jamiel when he was a baby. Jamiel was 6.6 lbs. and Joannie is 8 lbs. She's even taller than her brother, hehe. Jamiel has longer and curly eyelashes, while Joannie has short but curly too. Joannie has long, slender fingers and toes. She has thicker hair than average babies, I think she got it from me. Her eyes are similar to her brother's. Actually, they both look the same, you can even say they're like twins. Hehe.

The Delivery
When Melay came out of the operating room, she was shivering a lot due to the operating room's very cold temperature. I was really worried and I kept holding her hand to help her warm herself. She's also in pain and can't even move a bit not even the following morning. After seeing her like that I decided I don't want a 3rd child anymore, which was what I wanted (she prefers only 2).

The rest of the week
I had a great time watching over Myles for the rest of the week. He has tantrum once in a while and I know he's also afraid of me. I also watched over Joannie once in a while. She just drinks milk and sleeps. When she's awake she just makes these funny expressions and shows off her big eyes hehe.

It is truly one of my happiest weeks this year. Hopefully, I get to go home earlier for Christmas even if I'll have to work from home for a week. *winks winks* hehe ^_^

First time to be stress @ work

My current issue made me stressful for the past two weeks. Two weeks, can you believe it? I've solved issues in less than 30 minutes and this one already got past the two-week mark. Darn... This is the first time I got stressed at work since I started working two years ago.

One of the worst days of my life

I just had one of the worst days of my life. I lost my back pack in the Metro Badminton's gym, a really bad omen since it was stolen/lost while our volleyball championship is being held. That back had all my most important belongings my wallet, my cellphones, mp3 player, some clothes and the most precious thing of all my wedding ring. It's the most important material thing to me, more important than all the other things in that bag combined. I can have my cards replaced within a few weeks/days but that ring??? It's one and only, the design was custom-made. It's the ring that was worn to me by my wife on our special day. @#$@#$#, we haven't reached our 1st anniversary yet. @#$#@$#@$#@$#@$#@$!!! It really pisses me off. If it was really stolen, forgive me Lord, but I hope something really bad happened with the thief. If I have caught him, he'll be the first person I have seriously hit in my entire life.

To the readers of this post: Apologies for the words in the post. I'm just totally pissed. It doesn't show outwardly, I still look my normal self, but in my mind a storm and earthquake is lurking. I'm not the type of person who can say such vulgar words so I'd rather just rant here, even though I have lived with my mom who can say such words with ease when she's totally mad or pissed.

Spur

Here's the song that I recorded. The song is performed by Depapepe, a guitar-duo group from Japan. I love this song a lot so I wrote my own lyrics for it back in June.

I dedicate this song to my wife. ^_^

Recording

Since I'm in a quiet place, I'll be able to do what I am supposed to do 2 months ago. Good thing hotels are quiet =). I hope I can upload it tonight or maybe this morning before me and my area lead go to yodobashi.

Tagged: Anong tawag mo sa akin

Rule: List all the names
you were called by and the people who call you that. Tag at least 10 members of your contacts and give a comment on their site for them to know they've been tagged.

7. Dong - Tawagan namin ni Rhenus at Ken Bryan.

8. Panget - Tawagan din namin minsan nila Rhenus at Ken Bryan.

We arrived in Kansai International Airport at around 7:30 last night. The plane encountered a few turbulence and I can remember the first one was right after a few minutes upon taking off. 'Yun ang isa sa mga turbulence na mapapadasal ka talaga =). I was reading Rage of Angels by Sidney Sheldon for most of the time during the flight. I slept for around 30 minutes or more and I woke up having an upper-left back pain na ikinagulat ko sapagkat bago ako natulog eh ang upper-right ang masakit dahil sa volleyball game namin noong Sabado.

I wasn't that tired but I was so sleepy and so I rushed on fixing my clothes in the closet and went to sleep. I was planning to call my wife but I can't seem to get the dialing procedure correctly, when I checked this morning sa globe website, kulang pala ako ng # sa last hehe =).

My first impression of Japan, well, wala pa akong masabi actually. We'll know in the next few days or maybe sa weekend pa =p.

I miss my family much more by being here... *sigh

5th Year Anniversary; Kobe in 24

My wife and I are celebrating our 5 years being together today. I can still remember the day that I proposed to her. The place isn't romantic at all because we were in school waiting for our CWTS class, it was also on a Saturday. And I can also remember that when we were about to part ways, she's the only one who got to kiss me *darn. I lost that special moment. I just looked at her stunned because she doesn't normally kiss me when there are many people and I suddenly shouted in my mind, "naman hindi ko siya nakiss, sayang."

And throughout the rest of our immersion activity, I was smiling almost all the time.. ^_^

--------------------

It's been two seasons since Kobe Bryant changed his jersey number to 24. Well that's not my point in this blog post. Hehehe. It's just a coincidence that these two things, Kobe and 24, are related to what I'm gonna tell.

In exactly less than 24 hours I'll be in Kobe, Japan. This will be one of the most thrilling experience of my life since I'm alone in this flight and it's my first international flight. It was only last night that it dawned how a little scary experience this can be and I thought to myself, why the heck was I so confident all this time? My wife told me that deep inside I know what to do and everything will be fine tomorrow. Well, I hope I'm right. I should be more scared of the work that's waiting for me there but I hope I still can enjoy the trip. =)

Tips for a Better Life

-------------------------------------------------
MountainWings A MountainWings Moment
#8224 Wings Over The Mountains of Life
-------------------------------------------------

42 Tips for A Better Life
==========================

1. When you wake up in the morning, always start your day
with a prayer/vision.

2. And then, complete the following statement,
My purpose is to__________ today.

3. Take a 10 to 30-minute walk every day. And while you walk,
smile. It is the ultimate anti-depressant.

4. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day. Buy a lock
if you have to.

5. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less
food that is manufactured in plants.

6. Drink plenty of water and fresh juices. Eat blueberries,
salad, wild Alaskan salmon, broccoli, almonds, etc.

7. Make at least three people smile each day.

8. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, energy vampires,
issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot
control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present.

9. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner
like a college kid with a maxed out charge card.

10. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone, so give the
best of your kindness.

11. Take yourself seriously.

12. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

13. Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.

14. Don't compare your life to others'. You have no idea what
their journey is all about. Don't compare your partner with
others either.

15. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
So, be happy.

16. Remember that great love and great achievements involve
great risk.

17. Remember the three R's: Respect for self; Respect for
others; Responsibility for all your actions.

18. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps
to correct it.

19. Frame every so-called disaster with these words:
In five years, will it matter?
Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn.
Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and
fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will
last a lifetime.

20. Forgive everyone for everything.

21. Read more books and watch less TV than you did last year.

22. What other people think of you is none of your business.

23. God has everything you'll every need in life so hook up
with Him.

24. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

25. In disagreements with loved ones, deal with the current
situation; don't bring up the past.

26. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

27. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your
family and friends will. Stay in touch.

28. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

29. Keep believing that the best is yet to come.

30. Once a year, go someplace you've never been before.

31. Each day give something good to others.

32. Don't over do. Keep your limits.

33. Sleep for 7 hours every day or whatever your body needs.

34. Don't trust someone who doesn't close their eyes when you
kiss them.

35. Remember that the best relationship is one where your love
for each other is greater than your need for each other.

36. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a
stroke of luck.

37. Do the right thing!

38. Each night before you go to bed complete the following
statements:
I am thankful for__________
Today I accomplished_________

39. Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.

40. Trust in God, but lock your car.

41. Realize that as you get older, you are not approaching death,
but heaven.

42. Know that GOD heals everything.

Bambam

I had a great short vacation last week with my family. It's been more than 3 months since I last saw my wife and my son. To my surprise, my son has learned a lot of things I didn't imagine he can learn.

There's just a long list of things that he already knows.

One thing that strikes me most is his comprehension. You can tell and teach him things and he easily understands them, siyempre yung madadaling concepts lang. My wife is even bothered when I was teaching him how to turn the doorknob. Hehehe.

He runs so much, plays a lot, and talks a lot.

One thing that stands out among the rest of his likes, are balloons and balls. He calls them "bambam." Nakakatuwa nga siya kapag nakakakita ng balloon kasi sasabihin niya ang bambam sabay turo at pupuntahan ang balloon para paglaruan to think that the only time he had played with a balloon was during his birthday last April.

When we attended mass last Sunday, he just kept standing along the aisle and he touches every kid that he sees. He smiles to every person who looks at him. Of course, they can't help but smile back at him even if he causes a little disturbance. He's cute and what makes him cuter is his long curly eyelashes (ehem ehem ^_^) and, take note of this, his two dimples na magkatabi. Yeah, magkatabi sila, parallel with each other on the same curve of the cheek. And nung umuwi lang ako ito na-notice. It's the first time I saw two dimples na magkatabi.

There are other things worth mentioning pero sa dami ay hindi ko na maalala at baka humaba lalo tong blog post ko. I'm so overwhelmed of his growth, which only makes me miss him more. I hope he'll grow into a fine man someday.

Rules of the game:

A) People who have been tagged must write
their answers on their blogs and replace any question that they dislike
with a new question formulated by themselves.

B) Tag eight
people to do this quiz and those who are tagged cannot refuse. These
people must state who they were tagged by and cannot tag the person
whom they were tagged by. Continue this game by sending it to other

Here's the lyrics on the bridge part:

Grey Huskies; Dance; Creative Zen replaced ^_^

Our team won the cheerdance competition in our sportsfest, which opened today. Yahoo!!! Kudos to Cathy and Edell for pulling it through and to all the SAP-ADSI managers who were really, really good and participative. Next year again.. ^_^

-------------

Me and 14 other Groove@HP members performed a dance number on the said event. I had some mistakes in some dances but I'm satisfied with my performance though I could have done better (darn tonsilitis I was grasping for air when the end was near). It was a great performance for all of us after more than a month of Saturday practices. I'll upload the video in multiply page once I got a copy from one of my co-dancers.

After having lunch with fellow Groovers, I went to megamall and to my delight I was able to pick up my Creative Zen from CompLink. The supplier replaced it with a new one! weeee!! hahaha! Now it's time to copy the songs ^_^.

Burden

Here's an excerpt from Loving Each Day newsletter that I receive daily...

-----------------
LOVING EACH DAY
-----------------

The
negative attitude says, "Why are people always coming to me and loading
me down with their troubles? Why do I attract them to me?" That
attitude perceives life as a burden, and that is certainly one point of
view.

But other people say, "Thank God I can be of service. I
am here to serve these people on whatever level and in whatever
capacity I can." When we recognize our love of humanity, we do whatever
has to be done to express that love to and with others.

Well, it can't be helped to complain why other people keep on filling us with their problems because at some point we might become tired or annoyed especially if the same problems are repeated over and over and we keep telling them the same piece of advice. However, we must face the fact that there are certain problems that can't be solved easily and it may even be beyond the capacity of the person who's confiding to us. Nobody can tell whether it's permanent or for just a little while.

If it really gets too annoying and the person is becoming so pathetic, then you must face the problem seriously with him/her in order to take a move that can, once and for all, solve it in whatever way that is possible. The solution may not be in anyway solve the problem completely but what's more important is to ease the burden that your friend is carrying.

Product warranty; dance

My creative zen got busted yesterday and so I brought it to the store to avail the product warranty. They'll be sending it to the supplier to check it out. I hope they can fix it. That mp3 player makes my day less gloomy.

---------------

On a side note, I'm so excited with the opening number for our company sportsfest. It's definitely worth performing because we practiced so many times. I hope the audience will love it. ^_^

Ikariam

It's been almost a week since I started playing this browser game. This game is similar to Civilization, a turn-based strategy game in PC. Ikariam focuses on building your town in many aspects (i.e. economy, science, military, seafaring). Aside from strengthening these four, you also have to make your citizens happy at the same time so that they won't leave your town.

You can play the game here Ikariam

Balloon

One Saturday evening while attending the birthday party of my cousin's friend's mother...

Jairo went inside the house crying.
Ate Gener: Oh bakit jai? (What's wrong jai?)
Jai: Balloon lipad. Jello (Balloon flew)
Ate Gener: Jello anong nangyari?? (Jello what happened?) with a taray look
(I told Jai that we can make a wish by letting the balloons fly. He even let it go)

And all of us were laughing out loud. ^_^

Me: Pinalipad mo rin balloon mo Je?
Jello: Opo.

Cebu Pacific system upgrade

Cebu Pacific had its reservation system upgraded last March 31 (afternoon i think?) up to April 1 noontime. I first thought that this shouldn't cause much impact, but I was wrong. Not only did the online booking system gone haywire but also their call center. It's probably because most people who are booking online went with the phone booking way and yes siree, it caused a very negative impact. I called their hotline (7020888) on April 1 @ 2pm and the number is busy. I called again 4x that hour, and still the number is busy. I was able to connect at around 3:45pm and the automated answering system greeted and told me to wait for an available CSR. Time went by, 20 minutes, 30 minutes. I hung up. This is the first time for Cebu Pacific's service to suck big time. I can book a flight in less than 10 minutes before and the lead time for connecting to a CSR is less than 2 or 3 minutes.

I was able to successfully booked my aunt's flight yesterday afternoon, this time it took 10 minutes to connect to a CSR. And today I just got back from Cebu Pacific's ticket office in Galleria. I got my number at 11am. Went back at 1pm. And was able to pay at 5:30pm. It's all due to that system upgrade.

As an experienced developer, I can imagine the pain those people behind the upgrade is sufferring. But, they should have made a contingency plan for this. Upgrade is beneficial in the long run but the negative impact it can cause during its deployment cannot be ignored, especially if its a critical system.

I hope Cebu Pacific can learn from this experience. I prefer their rates compared to other airlines. Their online booking system prior to the upgrade is better than others too, personally.

Random thoughts

Funny ones:

Serious one:

Life is like dancing. The different stages/trials that we face are the genres like pop, hiphop/street, tango, swing, boogie, folk, etc. We must keep up with what life can present to us just as we have specific dance steps and tempo for these different genres. We must have a flexible attitude if we want to get through life just like a dancer who must have a flexible body if he wants to dance various genres. We can't succeed all the time because our attitudes can't accommodate all unexpected situations like a hiphop dancer who can't do broadway or folk dance.

However, there are also circumstances that can get us through it all if we only have the guts, and these are those moments that we are able to push through our limits just like a dancer who keeps on slipping or missing a step during practice and was able to pull it off during the performance. Like learning a dance, we must prepare the steps and follow it if we want to accomplish a goal in life. There are times that the steps need to be changed or adjusted. There are also times when we need to change a goal, in order to pursue a higher level or because circumstances doesn't allow us to do so. It's similar to a dancer who needs to change the song because the theme for the program suddenly changes and it doesn't fit what he chose before.

In dancing, the dancer must enjoy the music, feel the fluidity of the body's movement, utilize the adrenaline rush, and inspire the audience because this is what dancing is all about. In life, we must enjoy each day of it, even if it is filled with unfortunate events. We must experience the growth and progress of ourselves especially in pursuit of our goals. Lastly, we must exert all our effort, defy all odds, push ourselves beyond our limits because our audience is God.

Sagittarian Employee Profile

Sagittarius Employee Profile (november 22 - december 21) The Sagittarian employee is head strong, cheerful, and willing to help. They exude self-confidence and take on tasks like there's no tomorrow. They are willing to tackle even the toughest of projects as long as it is challenging and gets them out of the routine. Lucky for them, their shining personalities and honest enthusiasm seem like a bright spot in the office- otherwise co-workers might begin to build animosity towards someone so arrogant and extravagant. Their tendency to exaggerate and take on more then they can handle usually results in missed deadlines and dropping the ball-not because they are lazy of procrastinate, but because their enthusiasm just gets the better of them sometimes. Don't let their nonchalance fool you-they really do care about what they are doing. They just have an easy-going attitude that allows them to keep on smiling even when they just messed up big time. Just because they are flexible and easy-going doesn't mean they won't tell you exactly how they feel-what is working for them and what isn't. And they won't just blindly take orders - they need to understand the
method and reason behind the process. If you are trying to motivate your Sagittarian employee, be sure to feed them plenty of challenging new projects and hint that some business trips might be on the horizon once deadlines are met. And whatever you do, try not to question their intentions - it is the quickest way to make them
upset. They aren't capable of deceit.

LAN Cable

It was our team's quarterly coffee talk yesterday. We were asked to bring a meaningful object that should tell an interesting story about us, our past, present, or future. Some showed mushy stuffs that really touched our hearts, while others presented simple yet very deep(philosophical actually) insights about themselves.

For myself, I presented a LAN cable. At first glance, it might seem to be one of those simple-yet-deep ones (I realized this when I was already standing to present it, haha!), however it's not under that category. The LAN cable reminds me of the Cisco Networking Challenge 2005 that my wife (my gf back then) and I competed into. For the hands-on round(final round), we were given a complicated network to setup. My wife did the crimping part of the LAN cables while I did the connection between the switches and routers using the LAN cable she made. She also took the task of subnetting the networks, finding out the range of IP addresses for each subnet, etc. while I took the computer seat to configure the workstations, switches and routers. With great effort and hard work, we were able to win it.

Well, the LAN cable primarily reminds me of my wife in so many ways. The way she twists and arranges the wires, the way she crimps with much force, and how delicate she cuts the rubber coat protecting the wires reminds me of how much she consistently and delicately ensures her work to have a perfect touch. I really admire her for this and how I wish I can be as consistent as her.

Darn, now I'm missing her more and more *sigh...
